What began as a doctor's personal passion for bold accessories has evolved into a Malaysian jewellery business specialising in handcrafted copper pieces, bespoke designs and jewellery-making experiences.
Dr. Nalini’s journey into jewellery began with a love for bold, colourful accessories. A medical doctor with an MBA and a passion for business, her creativity and curiosity soon inspired her to start designing her own pieces.
A Self-Taught Beginning
Self-taught through online tutorials and experimentation, Dr. Nalini began sharing her creations as Dr. Beads. When her first customer discovered a piece online, a creative hobby quickly began its journey into a growing business.
From Beads to Gemstones & Finding a Niche in Copper
The earliest Dr. Beads designs were primarily made using conventional beads. As Dr. Nalini's skills and knowledge developed, she began working with gemstones and experimenting with more sophisticated jewellery-making techniques.
During Malaysia’s 2020 lockdown, a customer’s request for a copper bangle inspired Dr. Nalini to experiment with copper. Soon after, a copper ring she shared on Facebook gained significant attention and orders, marking a turning point for Dr. Beads. Today, handcrafted copper jewellery, often paired with natural gemstones, remains at the heart of the brand.
Omnichannel Jewellery Business
Today, the brand serves customers through multiple online and retail channels, with pieces reaching close to 10 countries. Dr. Nalini continues to personally create bespoke designs, gemstone remodelling and jewellery modifications at their dedicated production centre in Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan.
More Than Selling Jewellery
Dr. Beads also offers jewellery-making workshops and interactive beading experiences. As a certified trainer and experienced lecturer, Dr. Nalini combines her passion for teaching, creativity and continuous learning to inspire others.
Looking Beyond
Dr. Beads continues to grow with plans to expand internationally, reach more retail locations and share the art of jewellery making through future courses. What began as a passion has evolved into a growing Malaysian jewellery brand, with much more ahead.
